Aichi is the fourth most populous of the 47 prefectures, after Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Osaka. Its population is approximately 7.5 million, of which approximately 2.3 million live in Nagoya, the prefectural capital. However, more than 5 million people live in other cities, towns, and villages, with golf courses scattered throughout each. The oldest golf course in the prefecture opened in 1929 (Showa 4), and full-scale golf course development began after World War II. More than 50 courses have been constructed in the scenic areas of the inland rolling hills and coastline.
Aichi Access to the golf courses in the "Meijo" area differs depending on the location, but access by car is basically convenient. Golf courses are scattered along the Tomei Expressway and the New Tomei Expressway, so you can smoothly access golf courses not only in Nagoya City, but also in Toyota City, Okazaki City, Toyokawa City, Toyohashi City, and Shinshiro City. Access from outside the prefecture is convenient by Tokaido Shinkansen and airplanes. Airports are located in Nagoya (Komaki Airport) and Centrair (Central Japan International Airport), providing convenient transportation.
Among the most popular golf courses in Aichi are those that are close to Nagoya city and open to visitors. Okazaki Country Club located about 10 minutes from the Okazaki Interchange on the Tomei Expressway, opened in 1965 and is popular for its easy access to its prestigious, historic course. Castle Hill Country Club located about 7 minutes from the Toyokawa Interchange on the Tomei Expressway, is another popular course. It was named after the fact that it was built on the site of Ashiyamada Castle, which was built by a vassal of the Takeda clan during the Sengoku period.
