Fukui Prefecture is long from north to south, and is divided into the Reihoku region to the north and the Reinan region to the south, with Kinome Pass located right in the middle as the boundary. The central city of the Reihoku region is Fukui City, the prefectural capital, while the central city of the Reinan region is Tsuruga City. Since approximately 250,000 of the prefecture's total population of about 750,000 live in Fukui City, many golf courses have been developed in the Reihoku region. Out of more than 10 golf courses in the prefecture, only two are located in the Reinan region, while the rest are concentrated in the Reihoku region.
Although Fukui Prefecture has Fukui Airport, it has no scheduled flights because the runway is too short for large jet aircraft to take off and land. Consequently, access to golf courses was limited to cars or trains. While access from the Kinki region was smooth, the area was not blessed with good access from the Tokyo metropolitan area. This situation improved dramatically on March 16, 2024, when the Hokuriku Shinkansen line between Kanazawa and Tsuruga opened. It is now possible to reach golf courses in Fukui Prefecture by taxi or rental car from Awaraonsen, Fukui, Echizen-Takefu, and Tsuruga Stations.
The main bases for accessing golf courses in Fukui Prefecture are Fukui City, the prefectural capital, and Awara Onsen, which is known as the "Inner Parlor of the Kansai Region." Fukui Country Club attracts popularity due to its high level of convenience, as players can reach the course in about 20 minutes from either station. The 27-hole layout, consisting of the East, Middle, and West courses, features ponds and bunkers skillfully placed within flat terrain to enhance strategic play. The setting ensures an enjoyable experience for everyone, from beginners to advanced players.
