As you may know, Tokyo is the capital of Japan with a population exceeding 14 million. On the other hand, it is the third smallest prefecture in terms of land area. This makes it one of the most densely populated cities in the world, with 11% of the total population concentrated in just 0.6% of the country's land. Consequently, there are only about 20 golf courses in Tokyo, most of which are private membership clubs that require an introduction from a member. Recently, however, an increasing number of courses have started welcoming visitors, and these are becoming quite popular.
While golf courses in Tokyo offer excellent access by both car and train, many are located in densely populated areas, meaning surrounding roads can get very congested during peak morning hours. Therefore, traveling by train is often the better option as it ensures a predictable arrival time. Most courses provide shuttle buses from nearby JR or private railway stations, reaching the clubhouse in just 10 to 15 minutes. This allows golfers to fully enjoy the benefits of playing at a course so close to the city center.
Among the many golf courses with convenient train access, Tokyo Sobu Country Club stands out as particularly popular. Located in Hachioji City, Tokyo, the club operates shuttle buses from two different lines: Hachioji-minamino Station on the JR Yokohama Line and Mejirodai Station on the Keio Takao Line. The ride to the course is short—about 12 minutes from Hachioji-minamino and 15 minutes from Mejirodai. Since the completion of its brand-new clubhouse and its grand reopening in September 2023, the club's reputation has reached even greater heights.
