Hiroshima Prefecture is characterized by the Chugoku Mountains in the north and the Seto Inland Sea to the south. The northern region experiences cooler temperatures with higher rainfall and occasional snow in winter. In contrast, the southern part enjoys a mild climate with less rain and many sunny days throughout the year. Since major cities—including Hiroshima, Fukuyama, Kure, Higashi-Hiroshima, and Onomichi—are concentrated in the south, most golf courses are developed in the southern hilly areas. However, several courses are also scattered along the Chugoku Expressway, which runs through the mountainous interior.
Getting to golf courses in Hiroshima is generally smoothest by car. Many courses are developed along the Sanyo and Chugoku Expressways, as well as along the Hiroshima Expressway which connects the two. To reach Hiroshima, the Sanyo Shinkansen or air travel is most convenient. The Shinkansen has five stops within the prefecture: Hiroshima, Higashi-Hiroshima, Mihara, Shin-Onomichi, and Fukuyama Stations. Hiroshima Airport offers scheduled flights from Tokyo (Haneda), Sapporo (New Chitose), Sendai, Okinawa (Naha), and Narita.
Hiroshima Prefecture is broadly divided into northern and southern areas, with the south further categorized into three districts: Hiroshima/Kure, Higashi-Hiroshima/Takehara, and Fukuyama/Bisan. Among golfers in the Hiroshima/Kure district, Chiyoda Golf Club is a top choice. Conveniently located within 10 km of the Chiyoda Interchange on the Chugoku Expressway, the course features 10 ponds of various sizes that significantly enhance its strategic depth. In the Fukuyama/Bisan district, Hongo Country Club is highly favored, earning a great reputation for its diverse layout that masterfully incorporates the area's natural terrain.
