Yamaguchi Prefecture is located at the westernmost tip of Honshu, facing Kyushu across the Kanmon Straits. It is bordered by the Sea of Japan to the north and the Seto Inland Sea to the south, with the Chugoku Mountains stretching east to west through its center. Because major cities—including Shimonoseki (the most populous), Yamaguchi (the prefectural capital), and Ube—are situated toward the south, most of the prefecture's 30+ golf courses are developed along the Sanyo Expressway in the southern region.
Access to golf courses in Yamaguchi depends on your specific destination. From the Tokyo metropolitan area, it is most convenient to fly into Yamaguchi Ube Airport for courses in the western part of the prefecture, or Iwakuni Kintaikyo Airport for those in the east, and then continue by car. For courses around Shimonoseki, Kitakyushu Airport is also a viable option. For those traveling from the Kansai or Kyushu regions, the Sanyo Shinkansen offers the smoothest access, with five stops within the prefecture: Shin-Shimonoseki, Asa, Shin-Yamaguchi, Tokuyama, and Shin-Iwakuni Stations.
In the western part of the prefecture, near Yamaguchi Ube Airport, Sanyo Kokusai Golf Club is a top favorite. It is conveniently located just 3 km from the Hanyu Interchange on the Sanyo Expressway. The club is well-regarded for its casual playing style, actively encouraging golfers to drive their carts directly onto the fairways. In the east, near Iwakuni Kintaikyo Airport, Waki Golf Club is drawing significant attention. By focusing on high-quality course maintenance, it has earned an excellent reputation, attracting players not only from within the prefecture but also from western Hiroshima.
