With a population of approximately 8.76 million, Osaka Prefecture ranks as the third most populous prefecture in Japan, yet it is the second smallest in terms of land area after Kagawa Prefecture. Despite the limited space and high population density, there are nearly 40 golf courses in the region. This is primarily due to the presence of the Hokusetsu, Ikoma, and Kongo-Izumi-Katsuragi mountain ranges that encircle the Osaka Plain, providing suitable land for golf course development. Additionally, several courses have been built along the Yodogawa riverbeds, serving as accessible recreational spots for the local public.
While golf courses in Osaka Prefecture are generally most convenient to reach by car, heavy traffic congestion can occur in various areas during morning and evening rush hours. Depending on the course location and your tee time, traveling by train may actually be a smoother option; therefore, it is often beneficial to compare driving and rail routes. For travel into Osaka, there are a wide variety of options: the region is served by two major airports—Itami and Kansai International—and Shin-Osaka Station serves as a central hub where Shinkansen bullet trains arrive from both the east and west.
Sakai Country Club has been popular with many golfers since it opened in 1971, and in June 2024 it renovated its clubhouse, transforming it into a calm and elegant space. Coupled with its capacity of 27 holes across three courses - Matsu, Take, and Ume - it has become increasingly popular with women and younger generations. Misaki Country Club also renovated its clubhouse, which opened in 1965, in April 2020 and has been highly popular with golfers in the Sennan and Semboku regions.
