Nara is divided into the southern mountains (Yoshino Mountains) and the northern lowlands, bordered by the Yoshino River, which flows east to west in the center. Since most of the population of about 1.3 million people live in the north, most of the more than 30 golf courses in the prefecture are built around densely populated areas in the north. Many people live along the Kintetsu Kyoto Line and Kashihara Line, including Nara City, the prefectural capital of about 350,000 people, and golf courses are concentrated in the hills and plateaus that spread to the east.
Many golf courses are located around the interchange of the Meihan National Highway, which connects Tenri City in Nara Prefecture and Kameyama City, Mie Prefecture. Access is smooth from the Nishi-Meihan Expressway in the direction of Osaka, and from the Keihanawa Expressway in the direction of Kyoto.
There are also golf courses with easy train access.
Some golf courses have club buses that depart from JR Nara Station or Kintetsu Nara Station, making them convenient for golfers arriving by train from Osaka or Kyoto.
To access Nara 's golf courses, it is smooth to base yourself in the central city of Nara. Nara Meihan Golf Club is about 4 kilometers from the Meihan National Highway Needle Interchange, which is easily accessible from Nara City, and the 27 strategic holes designed by Peter Thomson will inspire golfers to take on the challenge. On the other hand, Yamato Kougen Country Club has fairways that are about twice as wide as regular courses, and its spacious layout gently welcomes beginners.
