Kumamoto is the second most populous in Kyushu after Fukuoka, with about 1.7 million people living in it. It also has the second largest number of golf courses, with more than 40 courses. About 740,000 of the approximately 1.7 million people live in Kumamoto City, the prefectural capital, so golf courses are also built mainly in the hilly areas of the inland area that are easily accessible from Kumamoto City. Among them, many golf courses have been built in the gentle hills around Mt. Aso, and this area is the Kumamoto golf course Ginza.
Kumamoto is the second most populous prefecture in Kyushu, so it is blessed with access. There are two airports in the prefecture (Kumamoto Airport and Amakusa Airport). Kumamoto Airport (Aso Kumamoto Airport) operates regular flights to and from Tokyo (Haneda), Tokyo (Narita), Osaka (Itami), Nagoya (Komaki), Nagoya (Chubu), and Okinawa (Naha), and has a large number of flights. Amakusa Airport offers scheduled flights with three round trips daily to Fukuoka and one to Kumamoto. There are four stops for the Kyushu Shinkansen: Shin-Tamana Station, Kumamoto Station, Shin-Yatsushiro Station, and Shin-Minamata Station.
Aso Ozu Golf Club is a highly popular choice in the Aso region, an area known as a 'mecca' for golf courses in Kumamoto. Spread across flat grounds at the foot of the Aso volcano, the course offers ample tee shots, making it popular with golfers of all levels, from beginners to advanced players. Meanwhile, Kikuchi Country Club, located on hilly land near Kikuchi City, renovated its clubhouse, which opened in 1979, in July 2024, and is gaining popularity among women and young people.
