Things you should know about golf in Nagasaki
Many courses have ocean views as a selling point.
Approximately 70% of Nagasaki 's land area is made up of peninsulas and remote islands, with 1,479 remote islands, the most of any of the prefecture's 47 prefectures. The prefecture's distinctive topography is characterized by mountains, hills, and plateaus accounting for 90% of the land, while lowlands make up just under 10%. That said, there are no high mountains; the highest peak is 1,483 m (Heisei Shinzan on Mount Unzen). Unzen is the site of Japan's second-oldest golf course, Unzen Golf Course, which opened in 1913. Full-scale golf course construction began after the war, starting with Unzen Golf Course, and more than 20 courses have been constructed, primarily in the hilly areas of the prefecture offering ocean views.

Nagasaki has one airport managed by the government (Nagasaki Airport) and five airports managed by the prefecture (Fukue Airport, Tsushima Airport, Iki Airport, Kamigoto Airport, and Ojikashima Airport). There are golf courses on remote islands, but basically you can access the golf course by car from Nagasaki Airport. Nagasaki Airport is a maritime airport, so there is also a golf course that can be accessed by high-speed boat from the airport. On September 23, 2022, the Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen between Nagasaki ~ Takeo Onsen opened, making access by train from the Fukuoka direction smoother.

One of the most highly regarded golf courses in Nagasaki Prefecture is Huis Ten Bosch Country Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus, who won 73 PGA Tour titles and 18 majors. Built on hillsides with views of Omura Bay and Sasebo Bay, the 18 holes fully demonstrate the course philosophy of the golfing king. Meanwhile, Sasebo International Country Club will be reopening its clubhouse, which opened in 1976, in April 2024. The newly renovated facility has been well received by golfers.
